On 14 February 2018, the Slovak Parliament passed an amendment to the Labour Code which will substantially increase existing wage surcharges for night work and holiday work and will also introduce new ones. Employees will be entitled to the wage surcharges for work on Saturdays and Sundays (which was not obligatory until now). The amendment also establishes the opportunity for employers to provide 13th and 14th wages, i.e., benefits for employees before the Summer Holidays and Christmas Holidays, which will be tax free, if all statutory conditions are met. The amendment will be effective as of 1 May 2018.
